Long before it became associated with Wallasey Central Library, Earlston House stood as an impressive private residence with links to the former Liscard Manor. Historical records connect the site with influential local families over several centuries before the present house was built around 1840 in a distinctive Scottish Tudor Gothic style. Originally known as Rose Mount, the property later became Earlston House, a name that has remained ever since.
When Andrew Carnegie funded the construction of the new public library in 1911, Earlston House was incorporated into the library complex rather than demolished. Today the combined building is Grade II listed, recognising both its architectural importance and its contribution to the history of Wallasey.
